League update 13th May
The Northumbria Summer League gets under way this week and several players will be turning out for different teams than in the winter league. In the first division NESLC players Jim Stamas and Richard Wilson will be representing Springwell and Seaburn Dene respectively, Saint Chads squad includes Paul Baines and Byker have Newton player Rob Lawson in their team. Steve Penman has joined first division Matfen from Cramlington and Newton players John Carr and Chas Robertson as well as Mark Patterson (Cramlington) and Dave Craddock(Old England) are all in the Byker B squad in division three. Fourth division Cramlington Corinthians
include Pauline Long from NESLC.
Newly promoted Sacriston Aces team of Waldemar Dzwonkowski, Duncan Fraser, Jon Mawson and Ian McAllister start life in the first division against a strong Cramlington Stingers squad which includes Dale Aitkenhead, Iain Wood, David Graham and Bonne Habekost. Byker A, back in the top division after a season out of the Summer League entertain Riding Mill, Cramlington Casuals take on Seaburn Dene and Springwell A are at home to Saint Chads.
Birtley are another club to return to the Summer League and they start back in division two by entertaining North Fire. The teams promoted from the third division, Sacriston Aces and Matfen are away to Cramlington Cobras and Ouston A respectively.
Brandon and Byshottles were promoted to division three and they have entered three additional sides with their B and C teams being placed in division four and their D team in the new fifth division along with another new side, New Direction who are based at Brandon.
Division five, which includes new teams from Cramlington and Matfen as well as the Brandon sides will see a lot of youngsters, new to competitive table tennis, taking part.
