League Update 27th May
Springwell continued their good start in the Northumbria Summer League first division when a hat-trick by Dave Pringle helped them to a 7 – 3 win away to Riding Mill. Alex Smith got two sets, Alan Livingstone one and Smith and Pringle won the doubles. Cramlington Stingers had Iain Wood in form with an unbeaten performance as they recorded their second successive victory by winning the derby match with the Casuals 7 – 3.
Sacriston Bombers young players, Max Duffin and Peter Smallcombe were again unbeaten when they took on Birtley in division two and with senior player Nigel Coe winning one they ran out 8 – 2 victors. Alex Holliday, Dave Swan and John Henderson were too good for Cramlington Cobras, winning 9 – 1, only Henderson losing out to Alastair Johnson.
In a closely fought match between Byker B and Whitley Chapel in division three a hat-trick by Byker’s Dave Craddock made all the difference and gave his side a 6 – 4 success. Lanchester A team of Dave McAllister, Andy Firth and Thaaquib Saleem won their second match by defeating Matfen B 10 – 0.
Peter Whitfield was again in top form for Sacriston Chargers in division four with three sets to his name and was backed up by Dennis Jennings(2) and one from Barry Dingwall. Dingwall and Jennings won the doubles as they beat Brandon B 7 – 3.
A lot of young players are playing in the fifth division where Cramlington Magpies have got off to a good start. Andrew Matfin and Will Capps both won all of their sets as they beat the Knights 7 –3. Newcomers Matthew Mastaglio, Thomas Clark and Callum French of Cramlington Lions visited Sacriston Desperadoes who also had new players in their side and came away with an 8 – 2 win.
