League update 25th November
The Premier Division of the Northumbria League has four teams now in contention for the top spot. Andrew Wilkinson and Steve Penman were both unbeaten and Mark Christie got two for leaders Cramlington Casuals as they overcame Springwell B 8 – 2 but they had their lead cut to two points when NESLC Eagles defeated Springwell A 9 – 1 with Jim Stamas and Paul Baines both getting hat-tricks. Another unbeaten player was Chun Yin Yu of North East Chinese Association whose side won 8 – 2 over Cramlington Reivers to draw level with third placed Saint Chads who are still unbeaten after a 6 – 4 win at Newton.
North Fire’s side of Karen Henry, Bob Atwell and Barry Hill continue to head the Division One table after beating Byker B 7 – 3 but they all lost out to the visitors’ Dean Eadington. Mark O’Connor won all of his sets for second placed Riding Mill A who won 8 – 2 away to Ouston A.
Max Duffin, Duncan Fraser and Jon Mawson of Sacriston Aces were too good for Matfen C, winning 10 – 0 to extend their lead at the top of the Division Two. Unbeaten performances by Rob Lawson and Dave Lucas saw second placed Newton B defeat YMCA North Tyneside A 7 – 3.
There were mixed fortunes for Cramlington teams in Division Three with the Dragons losing 8 – 2 to Saints for whom Vince Killen was man of the match but the Corinthians had youngsters Adam Webster and Andrew Matfin in fine form as they beat Whitley Chapel 7 – 3.
Brandon Bravehearts shocked second placed Newton C in Division Four when they held them to a draw. Jordan Dove and Kevin Richardson both got two sets with Val Lough getting one. Wyn Thompson was unbeaten for the Tynedale team.
