It’s been a week of upsets in the Northumbria league this week. Previously unbeaten and runaway Division 2 leaders Sacriston Aces lost away to second placed Old England Crocks 6-4 with Ken Clark for the crocks winning his 3 against Duncan Fraser, Jon Mawson and Ian Mcpherson. Clark was supported by Colin Robson and Ken Clark. The Chinese Community team are keeping up their challenge for honours with a 7-3 win against the Swifts from Cramlington TTC
In division 1 likely champions Riding Mill have been busy playing 2 matches this week one scheduled and one re arranged. They won them both 6-4 with the Mill’s Mark Oconnor being unbeaten wining 2 player of the match awards and putting his team joint second with Cramlington tigers both with 2 games in hand over current leaders North fire.
In the Premier Division the other shock of the week is Cramlington Reivers winning their first match of the season against a weakened Springwell ‘A’ team and moving off the foot of the table although still looking like relegation prospects. Up and comming 12 year old star Peter Smallcombe has played twice for different Cramlington teams this week. First helping the Casuals to win 9-1 away at Newton winning 2 and then although being on the losing Stingers side away at NESLC managed to get the better of County player Jim Stamas winning 13-11 in the deciding 5th game.
Old England Fatts are keeping up the pressure at the top of the 3rd division with with a 7-3 win away at Cramlington Corinthians. Barry Mathews, Nick Ng and Ben Darcy all winning 2 each and Adam Webster getting his 3 plus the doubles for the home team. At the other end of the table Matfen D drew with Cramlington Spartans which is keeping the Spartans out of the relegation places but it’s still all to play for over the remaining 5 matches of the season.
