Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 18August 2019
In Division 1 the top two teams Mount A and St Chads played each other this week where the outcome would decide who claimed top spot in the division. A strong Mount team of Graeme Barella, Adam Webster and Jamie Dent overcame the St Chads team of Josh Weatherby, Keith Weatherby and Paul Baines with an 8-2 win and gained sufficient points for Mount to secure top spot. Graeme Barella was player of the match winning his three games for Mount with Adam Webster and Jamie Dent winning two games each. The consolation points for St Chads were won by Josh Weatherby. At the other end of the table Matfen Senators and Prudhoe played each other with Matfen securing a straightforward 9-1 win. Stephen Oxley was player of the match for Matfen winning three games, Neil Forsyth won his three games and Alex Holliday two games.
In Division 2 having confirmed their position as division winners last week Mount B proved too strong for Newtonwith a 10-0 win. An excellent summer league for the Mount club having won both division 1 and 2 titles. Not being able to field their strongest team in the last few weeks the North East Chinese Association faltered again this week losing 7-3 to Old England. Jake Helm was player of the match for Old England winning three games with Joe Perrin winning two games and Dave Craddock one game. Durham Bombers had two games in the week, in the first they drew 5-5 with Tyneside TTC A. Despite only fielding two players Tyneside managed to gain the draw thanks to Mark Kimberley who won three games supported by Mark Patterson who won two games. In their second game Durham had a straightforward 8-2 win over Backspin TTC A. Ian McAllister was player of the match for Durham winning his three games and was supported by Mark Walton and Ian McPherson who both won two games each.
In Division 3 Cramlington Cobras confirmed their place as the top team in the division with a 7-3 win over Brandon Bullets. The Cramlington team of Bernie McArdle, Lynsey Storey and Peter Wilkinson have been very consistent all season and have not lost a match all season. Despite being on the losing side Brandon’s Paul Dale was player of the match winning his three games. The Mount C team secured enough points in their 6-4 win over Tyneside TTC B to finish second in the division. Michael Hope was player of the match for Mount winning three games and was supported by John Rowell who won two games. The all Cramlington match between Trojans and Spartans saw a straightforward 9-1 win for the Trojans with Richard Williamson and Anthony Doyle both won three games. The consolation point for the Spartans was gained by Oliver Ho who defeated Rob Lee.
In Division 4 Cramlington Corinthians maintained top spot with a straightforward 9-1 win over Backspin TTC B. The Cramlington team of Rob Lee, Sam Nair and Jamie Hall proved too strong for the Backspin team whose only point was gained by Craig Henderson who defeated Jamie Hall. Durham Comets maintained second place after a straightforward 10-0 win over Tyneside TTC C, Luke Dumighan, Harry Veitch and Oliver Wilkinson all winning their three games. Cramlington Ravens had two games in the week one game was 10-0 win as Backspin TTC B could not field a team, in the second game the Ravens defeated Tyneside TTC C 9-1. Israel Shoedinde and Roy Hugill both won three games and were supported by Jack Cairns who won two games. However, the final places in the division are not finalised yet. Cramlington Ravens still have two games to play which could see them take to place from Cramlington Corinthians who have held top spot in the division all season
In Division 5 Matfen Cohorts secured top spot in the division with a straightforward 10-0 win over Cramlington Magpiesand a closer 7-3 win over Cramlington Dragons. The Matfen players Linda Pinkham, Richard Rayfield, David Crompton, David Swan and Mark Perrin proved too consistent for their opponents all season and were the only team in all 5 divisions to win all of their games. The Cramlington Jaguars team of Michael Sursham, Gavin Wilson and Abdel Warayet securedsecond place in the division after a 5-5 draw with Backspin TTC C.
