Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 01 December 2019
This week was the second round of the cup competition. There were 14 games played and two games unfortunately conceded which gave byes to the next round for Mount A and Brandon Bravehearts.
The draw resulted some games between teams from the same clubs which generally went the way of the form book. The NECA A team of David Byers, Ken Lee and Kit Robinson beat the NECA B team 6-3. The Ouston C team of Duncan Hindmarsh, James Milroy and Dacvid Nicholls proved too strong for their D team and won 9-0. In the game between Matfen Senators and Matfen Cohorts the Senators had a scare as they went behind 4-2 to the Cohorts but with wins in the last three singles games the Senators team of Alex Holliday, Neil Forsyth and Stephen Oxley eventually won 5-4. In the all Cramlington game the Cramlington Swifts beat the Cramlington Jaguars 5-4. There was a surprise in the all Tyneside game where the B team of Dean Eadington, Jim Roberston and James Moore overcame the A team of Mark Kimberley, Mark Patterson and Steve Dickinson in a 6-3 win.
The Mount B and C teams both had close games but came out on top. In the game between Mount B and Matfen Centurions 7 of the 9 games went to the thirds end and the decider was the final game between Mount’s Rod Roberts and Matfen’sChris Kilsby. This was a close game between the pair which went to a third end but eventually Rod Roberts came out on top and secured the win for Mount B. In the game between Brandon Anacondas and Mount C the Mount team were 4-3 down but wins in the last two singles’ games for Michael Bradley and Mick Hope secured a 5-4 for Mount C.
In the other games Ouston B beat Cramlington Lions 5-1; Sta Chads beat Whickham Saints 5-1; Newton B beat Cramlington Magpies 5-1; Cramlington Dragons beat Old England FATTS 7-2; Cramlington Cobras beat MatfenWhitley Chapel 6-3; Ouston A beat Cramlington Trojans 6-3 and Cramlington Falcons beat Cramlington Spartans 5-0.
After the second round of matches the Northumbria Junior league team are sitting at the top of the North East table with 44 point from 6 games. They have a good lead from second placed Darlington A with 38 points and third placed Ormesby A with 34 points. In the second of matches the Northumbria team was represented by Jack Cairns, Alan Roskilly, Harry Veitch and Oliver Ho. In the first game they beat Bishop Auckland A 7-2 with three wins for Harry Veitch and two wins each for Jack Cairns and Alan Roskilly. In the second game they beat Ormesby A 5-4 with three wins for Oliver Ho and one each for Alan Roskilly and Harry Veitch. In the third game they beat Bishop Auckland B 8-1 with three wins for Oliver Ho and Jack Cairns; and two wins for Harry Veitch.
There were 3 re-arranged league games in the week. In Division 1 the game between Newcastle University and Newton did not take place as Newton A could not field a team and conceded the game. This gave Newcastle University a 10-0 win and took them back to the top of the table.
In Division 4 Cramlington Dynamos went back to top spot after a 6-4 win over Cramlington Lions. This was a close game which the Dynamos won thanks to Rohan Rawat who won his three games, with Alan Roskilly winning two games and Tony Roskilly one game. In the game between Cramlington Colts and Cramlington Knights neither side could field a full team and the game ended 6-2 to the Colts.
