League update 28th July

Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 28July 2019

In Division 1 the top two teams St Chads and Mount A both won this week to secure their positions. St Chads easily overcame third place Cramlington Casuals with a 9-1 win to extend their lead over Mount A who narrowly defeated fourth place Brandon Air 6-4. Paul Baines and Josh Weatherby were both in good form for St Chads winning their respective three games; Chris Blake contributed with two wins. Anthony Barella was player of the match for Mount winning his three games and pairing up with Jamie Dent to win the doubles. 

Division 2 with the North East Chinese Association not playing Mount B took the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table with a 9-1 win over Backspin TTC A. Rod Roberts and Dave Cutler both won their three games for Mount with Mohinder Rawat winning two games; the consolation point for Backspin was gained by Dave McAllister who beat Mohinder Rawat. Tyneside TTC A secured a 7-3 win over Durham Bombers with Chas Robertson and Mark Kimberley both winning their three games, supported by Mark Patterson who won one game. The Durham points were gained by Ian McPherson and Jon Mawson who both won one singles games and then combined to win the doubles. In the third game Old England came out on top in a close game with Newton. Old England won 6-4 with Alan Atkinson winning three games and Lynne Herrington two games, the pair combing to win the doubles.

In Division 3 Cramlington Cobras maintain top spot with a 6-4 win over second placed Mount C. Bernie McArdle and Lynsey Storey were in good form each winning their 3 games. In their second game of the week Mount C reversed their fortunes with a 6-4 win over Brandon Bullets. Charlie Mouzon was in good form for Mount and was supported by Michael Hope and William Edwards who won one game each. The Brandon points were gained by Paul Dale and Jamie Westwater who won two games each. In the third gameMatfen Tribunes beat Cramlington Spartans 6-4. Nigel Treewas player of the match winning his 3 games with Pete Seago winning two games and Stefan Sobell winning one game.

In Division 4 Cramlington Corinthians maintained top place with a 7-3 win over Ouston A. The Corinthians team of Rob Lee, Sam Nair and Jamie Hall proved too strong for their opponents with Sam Nair gaining player of the match. Durham Comets had two games in the week both of which they won moving them into second place in the division. They defeated bottom of the table Tyneside TTC C 9-1 with Oliver Wilkinson and Harry Veitch both winning their three games. In their second game the Durham team overcame Cramlington Dynamos 8-2 with the same two players winning their three games again. Cramlington Dynamos also had a second game in the week which they lost 9-1 to Backspin TTC B for who Debbie Irwin and Will McCallum both won their three games.  

In Division 5 Cramlington Jaguars moved back to top spot with a 9-1 win over Cramlington Magpies. The Jaguars team of Mick Sursham, Abdel Warayet, and Gavin Wilson proved too strong for their opponents with the consolation win for the Magpies gained by Sara Haddi who beat the experienced Mick Sursham. Matfen Cohorts dropped to second place despite a 6-4 win over Backspin C. The Matfen points were gained by Linda Pinkham and David Crompton who won two games each and Mark Perrin who won one game. Backspin’s John Cook was player of the match as he won his three games. John Cook was player of the match in Backspin’s second game of the week when he again won his three games in a 7-3 win over Cramlington Magpies. The other points for Backspin came from Graham Burton and Robert Park with the Cramlington points from James Ainsley and Sara Haddi.  Cramlington Dragons edged a close game against Ouston Bwith a 6-4 win. Pauline Long and Paul Athey both won two games each and were supported by Stephen Baxter who won one game. Ouston’s Ian Cumpson was player of the match winning games despite being on the losing side.
