Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 03 November 2019
In the Premier Division there was a straight forward 10-0 win for NECA A when their team of Andrew Wilkinson, Adam Webster and Lee Tinkler proved too strong for their Cramlington Stinger opponents. This moves NECA into second place in the league two points behind top placed with St Chads with a game in hand. There was an 8-2 win for Cramlington Casuals over Mount C with Duncan Wraightplaying his first match of the season for the Cramlington team winning all three games and player of the match. James Bradbury and Iain Wood both won two games each to secure the win. In the game between Mount B and Old England Jamie Dent was in great form winning all three games including a tight game against Steve Penman. Dan Dodds and Dave Cutler won two games each to secure the win.
In Division 1 the Newcastle University team moved into top spot after a 9-1 win over Matfen Centurions. Robin Francis and Matthew Hopkins both won three games and with Jack Formby winning two games they secured the win. Matfen’sStephen Oxley gained their consolation win. There was a straightforward 8-2 win for Newton A over Ouston A with Graeme Bell and John Russell both winning their three games. Kevin Richardson and Thomas Fowle won the consolation points for Ouston; and Fowle was unlucky not to have a better match after taking both Russell and Bell to five ends. Prudhoe B beat Brandon Anacondas 7-3 with the Prudhoe team of Ryan Campbell, Maurice Cheek and Jordan Dove all winning two games each. Despite being on the losing side Brandon’s Stephen Pattinson was player of the match winning three games. NECA B beat Cramlington Tigers 7-3 with David Byers player of the match after winning three games. The game between Mount D and Mitford TTC was a 5-5 draw, Mitford’s Dale Aitkenhead was player of the match winning three games. The Mount team had taken a 5-3 lead but Aitkenhead and Michael Bull won the last two singles matches to secure the draw.
In Division 2 there was a top of the table clash between Old England Crocks and Mount E which ended in a 5-5 draw. Mount’s Alan Livingstone was player of the match winning his three games including the last singles game to secure the draw. Tyneside TTC B took advantage of that result to gain a little ground on second placed Mount E thanks to a 7-3 win over Ouston B. Dean Eadington was in good form for Tyneside winning all three games and was supported by James Moore who won two games and Jim Robertson who won one game. In the all Cramlington game the Reivers beat the Spartans 6-4. The Reivers’ Bernie McArdle continued his unbeaten start to the season winning another three games. Cramlington Trojans beat Ouston C 6-4 with Israel Shoedindewinning his three games for the Trojans and was supported by Roy Hugill who won two games. The game between MatfenTribunes and Cramlington Swifts ended in a 5-5 draw. Matfen’s experienced pair Nigel Tree and Phil Rainford proved too strong for their Cramlington opponents with Tree winning three games and Rainford two games. The Cramlington team of Phil Teah-Swift, Richard Williamson and Alastair Johnson all won singles game and the doubles to secure the draw.
In Division 3 there was a straightforward 9-1 win for NewtonB over Ouston D. Toby Lowe and Tom Manuel both won their three games and Ian Armstrong won two games. Ouston’sconsolation point came from an Ian Cumpson win over Armstrong. Newton could not repeat that result in their second game of the week when they went down 10-0 to the experienced Mount F team. The Mount team of John Rowell, William Edwards and Michael Bradley proved too strong for their opponents. Brandon Bravehearts had a straight forward8-2 win over Cramlington Cobras and maintained to spot in the division. Paul Dale and Jamie Westwater both won their three games. Cramlington resistance came from Joe Hastings and Steve Ralph who both beat Ian Foster. Tyneside TTC C had a 6-4 win over Saints thanks to young player Leo Conn who was in great from to win his three games against more experienced opponents. A close game between Cramlington Jaguars and Matfen Cohorts ended in a 5-5 draw. Richard Rayfield was player of the match winning his three games for Matfen. Matfen had taken a 4-1 lead before individuals wins from Cramlington’s Gavin Wilson, Mick Sursham and Abdel Warayet drew the game level. Rayfield and Sursham each won one of the last two singles games to ensure the overall game ended in a draw.
In Division 4 Cramlington Dynamos took advantage of Cramlington Dragons not playing to move into top spot after a 10-0 win over Cramlington Colts. The Dynamos team of Rohan Rawat, Alan Roskilly and Ojas Aggarwal proved too strong for their opponents. The game between Cramlington Lions and Cramlington Knights ended in a 5-5 draw. The Lions Freddie McKenna was player of the match winning all three games. The Knights secured the draw thanks to Sara Haddi and Jessica Yang who both won two games. Yang’s second win came in the last singles game which she recovered from 2-0 down to win the last three ends, win the game and secure the draw for her team.
