Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 05 March 2020
During the week round 4 of the cup competition was played. Ouston A beat Mount B 5-3. The Mount team had raced to a 3-1 lead in the first to 5 format thanks to two wins from Rod Roberts and one from Dave Cutler but they were pegged back by Ouston with two wins from Kevin Richardson, one win from Tom Fowle and one from Bernie Morris to win the match 5-3. The match between Ouston C and Brandon Bravehearts was close in the first few games with Oustontaking a 3-2 lead but then Brandon won the next 4 singles games to secure the win 6-3. The Brandon players Steve Pattinson, Paul Dale and Alan Perry all won two games each. The match between Mount A and Tyneside was over in the first five games as Mount won all five thanks to two wins each for Ant Ainley and Will McCallum, and one win for Ethan Brown. Both teams played on and the match ended with a 7-2 win to Mount. The final game was conceded by OustonB who could not field a team so Cramlington Falcons went into the semi-final draw.
The semi-final draw sees Ouston A play Mount A; and Cramlington Falcons play Brandon Bravehearts.
The Northumbria league Junior team played the final three matches of this seasons National Junior League and despite suffering three surprising defeats the team secured enough points to win the league having won their previous nine matches. The Northumbria team was represented by Oliver Ho, Jack Cairns, Harry Veitch and Alan Roskilly. The team finished first with 76 points ahead of Bishop Auckland A in second place with 74 points and Ormesby A in third place with 73 points.
There was one re-arranged game in Division 1 as Newton A entertained Mitford. Barry Hill was player of the match winning three games for Mitford as they beat Newton 7-3. Michael Bull and Bob Atwell secured the other points for Mitford with two wins apiece. The points for Newton came from Dave Lucas who beat Bull and Atwell.
In Division 2 there was a clash between the division’s bottom two teams, Ouston C and Cramlington Trojans. Despite a number of close games Ouston came out on top with a 7-3 win thanks to Harry Veitch who won three games and was player of the match for Ouston; Duncan Hindmarsh won two games and Jamie Milroy one game. The game between Cramlington Reivers and Cramlington ended in a 5-5 draw. Reivers raced into a 4-2 lead but then individual wins for the Spartan’s Rob Lee, Sam Nair and Jamie Hall put the Spartans into a 5-4 lead. In the last game Bernie McArdle beat Sam Nair to level up the match.
In Division 4 there was just one game which saw the Cramlington Lions beat the Cramlington Colts 7-3. John McKenna was player of the match for the Lions winning three games with Freddie Mckenna winning two games and Daniel Harrison one game.
