In the Premier Division the match between Cramlington Casuals and Tyneside A ended in a convincing 8-2 win for the Cramlington team. Both Iain Wood and James Bradbury won their three games and combined to win the doubles; Tyneside’s wins came from Mark Kimberley and Steve Dickinson. St Chads beat Cramlington Stingers 6-4 with Chris Blake winning three games and Keith Weatherby two games with the pair combing to win the doubles. The Stingers team of Steve Pearce, Nigel Rodgers and Gareth Pearson all secured wins over St Chad’s Barry Cuthbertson, and Steve Pearce had an excellent win over Keith Weatherby. The match between Mount A and Prudhoe United Services A ended in an 8-2 win for the Mount team with Ant Ainley and Dan Dodds both winning three games and combining to win the doubles. The Prudhoe points came from Mark O’Connor and Pete Stempczyk wins over Jimmy Scope. The game between NECA A and Newcastle University ended in a 5-5 draw. Adam Webster was player of the match winning his three games and combing with Lee Tinkler to win the doubles. The University’s Hoi Ting Lam and Froydis Jorgensen both won two games and Ben Savage one game to secure the draw.
In Division 1 both Mount teams were in action away from home. Mount C went down 7-3 to Cramlington Falcons who had Oliver Ho and Anth Doyle in good form both winning their three games and combining to win the doubles. The game between Old England Nomads and Mount B ended in the same score but this time the Mount team came out on top thanks to Lee Eadington who won three games and Dean Eadington who won two games. The pair combined to win the doubles against Joe Perrin and Colin Robson in a tight five end game.
In the match between the top two teams in Division 2 Ouston B came out on top with a 7-3 win over Brandon Bravehearts. Ouston’s Michael Lyons was again in good form winning his three games and was supported by Harry Veitch with two wins and Duncan Hindmarsh one win. There was a close game between Tyneside B and Cramlington Swifts which ended in a 6-4 win for the home team. Cramlington had taken a 3-1 lead but were then pegged back by the experienced pair of Jim Robertson and Chas Robertson to put Tyneside into a 4-3 lead. James Ainsley beat Ian Armstrong to level the game at 4-4. The final two games both went to five ends but the experience of Chas Robertson and Jim Robertson told in the end as they beat Richard Williamson and Phillip Teah-Smith respectively to secure the win for Tyneside. The match between Cramlington Reivers and Stocksfield B ended in a 5-5 draw thanks to Cramlington’s Bernie McArdle who won his three games without dropping a set and combined with Mike Dunn to win the doubles.
In Division 3 the early pace-setters Saints won their third match 8-2 against Cramlington Dragons to keep up their unbeaten record. Steve Dawson and John Cook were too strong for their opponents both winning three games. The Dragon’s Pauline Long and Adrian Barnes secured two points for the away team with wins over Ken Greatbatch. There was a close match between Tyneside C and Cramlington Cobras which could have gone either way. The match was all square after the eighth game but Cramlington won the final two matches to secure a 6-4 win. Joe Hastings was player of the match with two wins.
