Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 31 October 2021

In the Premier Division there were only two games this week. In the first game Newcastle University came out on top against Cramlington Casuals with a 7-3 win. The University pair of David Byers and Froydis Jorgensen both won their three games and combined to win the doubles. The games were more competitive than the scoreline suggests and many went to five ends; the games between Jorgensen and Iain Wood and Duncan Wraight were very close and could have gone either way. In the second game of the week Tyneside A came out of top of a depleted Prudhoe United Services A who were only able to field two players.  Despite being on the losing side Prudhoe’s Andrew Firth was player of the match winning his three games. Rob Lawson and Mark Kimberley both had good wins over Mark O’Connor.

In Division 1 the game between Ouston A and Cramlington Falcons ended in a 5-5 draw. The Cramlington team had taken a 5-3 lead with two wins apiece from Oliver Ho and Anth Doyle, and the pair combing to win the doubles. Ouston won the last two games to secure the draw with Kevin Richardson coming from two down against Oliver Ho to win the 9th game and player of the match having won his three games. There was close game between Prudhoe United Services B and Old England Nomads which ended in a 6-4 win for the Old England team. Joe Perrin and Lynne Herrington both winning two games for Old England. Mount C moved into second place in the division with a 7-3 win over Stocksfield A. Mount’s Alan Livingstone was player of the match winning three games with Karen Henry adding two wins and William Edward one win. NECA B had a convincing 8-2 win over Cramlington Tigers with Ken Lee and Jamie Collins both winning three games. Cramlington’s points came from wins by Lynsey Storey and Ron Scott over Terry Kwong.

The Division 2 leaders Outson B consolidated top position with a 7-3 win over Cramlington Spartans. Ouston’s Michael Lyons continued his good start to the season winning all three games and remaining unbeaten; Harry Veitch won his three games for Ouston. The Cramlington points came from Jamie Hall, Paul Conn and Sam Nair wins over Jamie Milroy. With Brandon Bravehearts not playing Tyneside B took the opportunity to move into second place with a convincing 10-0 win over Ouston C. The Tyneside players James Moore, James Robertson and Chas Robertson all proving too strong for their opponents.

In Division 3 the game between Cramlington Dragons and Tyneside C ended in an 8-2 win for Tyneside. Don Catley and Daniel Foster both won three games for Tyneside with Ian Armstrong winning one game. Only Pauline Long and Mark Gee were able to secure points for Cramlington. Stocksfield C had a convincing 9-1 win over Cramlington Cobras with David Crompton and Richard Rayfield both winning three games and Stefan Sobell two games. Cramlington’s Steve Ralph secured the team’s point with a win in a close 5 end game against Stefan Sobell. In the all Cramlington game the Dynamos came out on top against the Lions with a 7-3 win. Daniel Gazerani-Lopez and Jonathan Javita-Calle were in good form the Dynamos both winning their three games and combining to win the doubles.
