In Division 1 Mount A were confirmed as division winners before this week’s game. They played Cramlington Casuals but were unable to field their regular team and lost 7-3 despite the Casuals only fielding two players. Iain Wood and Gareth Pearson both won their games against Dave Cutler, Karen Henry and Jon Evans. This win placed the Casuals in second place with only St Chads who could move above them. St Chads played Prudhoe and won 6-4 which put them level on points with the Casuals but St Chads moved into second place on results between the two teams. Keith Weatherby was player of the match with three wins including a close game against Prudhoe’s Mark O’Connor where he won the last two ends to win from being 2-1 down. Old England had two games in the week with mixed fortunes. In the first game they overcame an under strength Cramlington Stingers who could only field two players with a 6-4 win, Alan Atkinson, Jake Helm and Joe Perrin all having two wins. In the second game they lost 6-4 to Mount B. Despite Neil Herrington winning three games he ended up on the losing side.
In Division 2 NECA have staged a late run of form which has seen them end up as league winners. They played two games this week. The first was against Brandon Anacondas who were top of the league going into the game. The game ended in a 5-5 draw and could have gone either way with some close games between the two teams. Brandon’s Steve Pattinson and Ian Richardson both won two games and the doubles; with NECA’s Will McCallum and Jamie Collins winning two games. This meant NECA’s second game against Mount C became important and if they were able to secure a win they would move above Brandon into first place. They subsequently won 10-0 against Mount C with NECA’s Will McCallum, Jamie Collins and Ken Lee proving too strong for their opponents. Durham City Scorpions had a straightforward win against Ouston with Harry Veitch and Luke Dumighan both winning three games and Oliver Wilkinson, only Ouston’s Bernie Morris was able to secure a win against Oliver Wilkinson which went to five ends whcih Bernie won 12-10 in the fifth. Durham City have one game left next week and depending on the result of that game they could move in second place above Brandon. Tyneside beat Cramlington Swifts 6-4 with Tyneside’s Chas Robertson being player of the match with three wins.
In Division 3 Brandon Bravehearts were confirmed as league winners after a 7-3 win over Stocksfield A. The Brandon team of Phil Hansom, Paul Dale and Dave Brown have been virtually ever present in this summer league and they all won two games to secure the win. Cramlington Tigers maintained second place after an 8-2 win over Stocksfield B. Leon Conn was player of the match with three wins which maintains his 100% record in the league. Paul Conn and Jamie Hall both added two wins both losing out to Stocksfield’s Mark Perrin in close five end games. Brandon Fusion played two games this week and Harry Flynn was player of the match in both not dropping a game. In the first game Brandon lost 6-4 to Backspin A but in the second game beat Stocksfield B 6-4. There are still a few matches to be rescheduled in this division which could still affect the final league positions.
In Division 4 there are still a few matches left to be played which could affect the final division placings. Cramlington Cobras remain top of the table despite losing their first match of the season, they have a large gap but could still mathematically be caught. The Cobras had two games this week, in the first game they won 6-4 against Cramlington Dragons with the Cobras’ Roy Hugill winning three games and Dorian Cheung winning two games against the experienced Pauline Long and Adrian Barnes. In the second game they lost 7-3 to Cramlington Magpies with the Cobras Joe Hastings player of the match for three wins but the Magpies players Mick Sursham, Rob Hopper and Joel Dyter all recorded wins against Alan Hedley and Dorian Cheung. Despite going into the match with only two players Cramlington Dynamos beat Backspin C 7-3 with Jonathan Javita-Calle and Joel Dyter wining their games against Backspin’s Adam Boudabouza, Robert Park and Robert Cook. In another all Cramlington match the Panthers beat the Dragons 6-4 with Nikhil Smith being player of the match after three wins including a close five end game against the Dragons’ Mark Gee.
