In the Premier Division it was disappointing that two matches were forfeited this week. NECA A had 10-0 walkover against Prudhoe United Services A; and Tyneside A had a 10-0 walkover against Newcastle University. The win for NECA A puts them in an almost unassailable position at the top of the division but they are still not mathematically certain. In the one match that was played in the week Old England Jacks beat Cramlington Casuals 8-2. Steve Penman was player of the match winning three games but Anth Doyle stepping up from Division 1 to play for the Casuals had the most notable win beating David Blackburn 3-2 having come back from 2-0 down, and he took both Steve Penman and Neil Herrington to five ends in the games against them.
In Division 1 Mount B moved back to top spot in the division with a 10-0 win over Mount C and with games in hand over their rivals Mount B look odds on to win the division. The competition is for second place with three teams vying for that spot. Cramlington Falcons lost some ground to Old England Nomads after they lost 6-4 although they still have two games in hand on Old England. Joe Perrin was player of the match with three wins for Old England with Lynne Herrington winning two games and Alan Atkinson winning one game. Ouston A moved ahead of Cramlington Falcons after a 9-1 win over bottom club Cramlington Tigers who’s cause wasn’t helped after they fielded an ineligible player. Jamie Hall was unlucky not to beat Bernie Morris as he went 2-1 up playing some controlled shots, but Bernie Morris won the last two ends 11-9 to secure the win.
In Division 2 the battle for second place saw an important game as second placed Tyneside B played third placed Ouston B. Tyneside were able to create a small gap over their rivals as they edged a close game with a 6-4 win. Tyneside’s James Moore showed great composure to win his three games against Michael Lyons, Jamie Milroy and Jeff McKenna as all three games went to five ends. Mount D had a straightforward 10-0 win over Ouston C with Gary Anderson, Joseph Miller and Jon Evans all winning three games. A close game between Cramlington Reivers and Cramlington Spartans ended in a 5-5 draw with Bernie McArdle player of the match for the Reivers. Leo Conn and Sam Nair both won games against Mike Dunn and Joe Swinburn; and both won ends in their respective games against Bernie McArdle but couldn’t capitalise of that to secure wins.
In Division 3 another forfeited game this time by Cramlington Magpies saw Tyneside C with a 10-0 win that saw them move into second place in the league, although Stocksfield C in third place still have two games in hand on Tyneside. Saints maintained top spot with a 7-3 win against Cramlington Cobras, Tom Marley was player of the match for the Saints winning three games. The game between Cramlington Dynamos and Cramlington Dragons ended in a 7-3 win for the Dynamos. Daniel Gazerani-Lopez was player of the match with three wins and he combined with Jonathan Javita-Calle to win the doubles. Jonathan Javita-Calle had two wins over Pauline Long and Mark Gee; and could have made it three after he went 2-0 up against Adrian Barnes but Adrian won the last three ends to secure the win. Cramlington Cobras had a second game in the week which they won 6-4 against Cramlington Lions. John McKenna was player of the match despite being on the losing side as he won three games for the Lions. For the Cobras Alan Hedley had a good win against Patrick Easton coming back from 2-0 down to win; and Dorian Cheung had good wins against Dan Harrison and Patrick Easton.
