Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 17 July 2022

In Division 1 Cramlington Stingers took the opportunity to move above Cramlington Casuals when the Casuals could only field two players and the Stingers won 7-3. Oliver Ho was player of the match with wins over Gareth Pearson and Leo Conn but playing up from division 3 for the Stingers Leo Conn had good wins against Anth Doyle and Rob Reed. St Chads maintained top place in the division with a 7-3 win over Mount B. Keith Weatherby was player of the match winning three games with Paul Baines winning two games and Dave Bissett one game. Mount A proved too strong for Prudhoe with Dave Robson, Jamie Dent and Lee Eadington all winning their games in a 10-o win.

In Division 2 there were three games all of which ended up with convincing wins for the home sides. The Brandon Anacondas team of Ian Richardson, Jamie Westwater and Steve Pattinson proved too strong for Ouston securing a 10-0 win and maintain second place in the division. Top of the table Tyneside had a 9-1 win over Mount C with both Mark Kimberley and Chas Robertson winning all three games. James Moore had a tough night with all three of his games going to five ends, he came out of top against Gary Anderson and Michael Hope but lost to Joseph Miller. NECA beat Cramlington Swifts 9-1 with Terry Kwong and Jamie Collins both winning three games with Ken Lee winning two games only losing out to the Swifts’ Rob Lee.

In Division 3 Backspin A had a straightforward 9-1 win over Stocksfield B. Backspin’s Tom Marley and Klaus Martin-Rupp were too string for their opponents and both won their three games. Stocksfield’s win came in the last game of the night when Mark Perrin beat John Cook in a five end game where he won the last two ends to come back from 2-1 down. With Stocksfield A not playing Cramlington Tigers moved into second place after a 7-3 win over Backspin B. Leo Conn was player of the match winning all three games and was supported by Lynsey Storey who beat Shirley Robson and Alex Nicholl and Jamie Hall who beat Shirley Robson. Debbie Irwin won two games coming back from 2-1 down against Jamie Hall to win five ends, and beat Lynsey Storey in a close game.

In Division 4 Cramlington Dragon moved to the top of the table after a 7-3 win over Backspin D. Pauline Long was player of the match winning three games with Adrian Barnes winning two and Paul Athey winning one. Adam Boudabouza played well for Backspin winning two games against the more experienced Adrian Barnes and Paul Athey. Cramlington Panthers beat Backspin C 7-3 with the Cramlington players Callum French, Jay Smith and Nikhil Smith all won two games each. The wins for Backspin came from Robert Park with two wins and Robert Cook with one win all of which came in close five end games.
