This week saw the start of the summer league with 44 teams taking part across four divisions.
In Division 1 the three matches all went the way of the home team. Cramlington Casuals beat Prudhoe United Services Club 8-2 with Cramlington’s James Bradbury player of the match winning his three games, Gareth Pearson and Rob Reed both won two games each. All three of Rob Reed’s games were five end games from which he secured win over Mark O’Connor and Peter Stempczyk 12-10 in the final end but lost 11-9 to John Henderson. Old England had a 7-3 win over Mount B with Jake Helm winning three games for Old England supported by Joe Perrin with two wins and Paul Wiggins with one win. St Chads had a 7-3 victory over Cramlington Stingers with Keith Weatherby and Chris Blake proving too strong for the Stingers as they both won three games, the Stingers points came from wins by Oliver Ho, Nigel Rodgers and Anth Doyle over Barry Cuthbertson.
In Division 2 there was a straightforward 10-0 win for Brandon Anacondas against Cramlington Swifts; Brandon’s Stephen Pattinson, Jamie Westwater and Phil Hansom all winning three games. There was a close match between Durham City Scorpions and Mount C which saw Mount C take a 4-3 lead only for Durham City to win the last three matches and secure a 6-4 win. Harry Veitch was player of the match for Durham City winning three games. Tyneside beat Ouston 7-3 with Mark Kimberley player of the match winning three games for Tyneside.
In Division 3 Brandon Bravehearts had a straightforward 9-1 win over Cramlington Tigers with Paul Dale and Phil Hansom winning three games for Brandon and David Brown. The Cramlington win came from Jamie Hall who beat David Brown; Jamie was unlucky not to secure more wins losing out in his other two games in the fifth end to Paul Dale and Phil Hansom. Stocksfield A beat Backspin B 9-1 with Stephen Oxley and Pete Seago both winning three games. Backspin’s point cam from an Alex Nicholl win over Thomas Manuel. In the game between Brandon Fusion and Stocksfield B the Brandon team included three junior players Joshua Jackman, Sam Li and Adam Bell. They were in trouble against the experienced Stocksfield team going behind 4-0 but then with mounted a comeback to win four of the next six matches to narrowly lose 6-4. Richard Rayfield was player of the match for Stocksfield with three wins.
In Division 4 Cramlington Cobras had a straightforward 10-0 win against Backspin D with Steve Ralph, Alan Hedley and Dorian Cheung proving too string for their opponents. There was a close game between Cramlington Dynamos and Cramlington Panthers which saw the Dynamos come out of top with a 6-4 win thanks to Jonathan Javita-Calle with three wins and Joel Dyter with two wins. In another all Cramlington game Cramlington Dragons beat Cramlington Magpies 6-4. The Magpie’s Rob Hopper was player of the match despite being on the losing side as he won three games.
