It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Rob Campbell was the man who lost his life in a tragic accident on Richmond Hill this weekend.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and team-mates.

In the First Division of the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League player absences affected the outcome of several matches and could prove influential in determining who is crowned champion and which teams are demoted. The defending champions Copy Shop A are now eight points clear of ABC Arborists who conceded three points to fifth-placed Breakaway and two-man Foxdale fell from sixth-place to bottom by losing heavily to Travellers A.

In the First Division Zurich Spinners recorded their second win of the season and moved clear of the relegation zone. The top two teams both won but Copy Shop A edged a point further ahead of ABC Arborists. Travellers B won 9-1 against second-placed Peel A and are now 23 points clear of Copy Shop B in Division Two. In another top of the table clash Surestrike Ramsey C lost 4-6 to Victory Roll Saints who are now just three points behind them in Division Three.

The biggest news of the night was Zurich Spinners’ inaugural win in the top division of the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League. Their 6-3 victory over fellow relegation contenders Travellers A means they are now just two points adrift. Man flu or tummy bugs laid low numerous players so several teams were a competitor short or had to make hasty substitutions.

The three top teams in each division of the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League all won emphatically to consolidate their positions. However, ABC Arborists moved a point closer to Copy Shop A in the First Division after beating Foxdale 9-0. In Division Two top placed Travellers B beat third placed Surestrike Ramsey A 8-2 who have now fallen seven points behind Peel A. Surestrike Ramsey C increased their lead in Division Three to four points over Victory Roll Saints.

Like most sports table tennis is dependent on sponsors to help fund the cost of running major competitions. Guy Wiltcher, a partner at Greystone LLC, recently provided a cheque for £500 continuing their involvement in the Island Closed Table Tennis Championships. Greystone’s generous support is much appreciated.

This year the Senior Schools International Table Tennis Championships were hosted by Wales at the National Institute of Sport in Cardiff. Seven nations were in attendance competing for team and individual medals at U’14, 16 and 18 age groups. The Isle of Man squad, resplendent in their new kit sponsored by OCRA (Isle of Man) Ltd, sent five teams who all travelled together in a mini-bus supplied by Blacks Van Hire.

Probably the most poignant presentation was made to Tim Baker by his mother Nola who was delighted to present Tim with The Gordon Baker Trophy for service to table tennis. It was fitting that Tim should receive the award which commemorates his late father who was a prominent player and supporter of island table tennis.

The Isle of Man Table Tennis League came to a conclusion on Wednesday with the final two issues resolved - but what a dramatic night it turned out to be, particularly in the third division.

The Island Junior Championships sponsored by Greystone llp were held at the NSC last weekend.

After an excellent tournament with a good level of entry, the honours were shared around the talented group of Junior players with the standard of play really encouraging for the future of the sport on the Island.

A few more issues were decided this week in the Isle of Man Table Tennis League, the biggest of which saw Copy Shop A retaining their Division One title. Elsewhere, Zurich Spinners claimed the second promotion spot in Division Two, Tower C were relegated from the same division while Travellers D and Peel C are promoted from Division Three, but the destiny of the third division championship is still not resolved going into the final week of the season.
via Isle Of Man Table Tennis Association ::
There are only two weeks left in the Isle of Man Table Tennis League and some of the main issues have now been decided. Copy Shop A have almost - but not quite - retained their Division One title. Main focus now switches to the runners-up spot where Breakaway A lead Arbory by just one point. Travellers B are confirmed as Division Two champions while Zurich Spinners are virtually certain to join them in Division One next season.
via Isle Of Man Table Tennis Association ::
Juan Moore Jnr, shown above, defeated the divisional title holder Kevin Drewry 11/6, 11/13, 16/14, 11/7 to keep Travellers D in the hunt for the promotion play-off place available to the runner-up in Division Three. Defending champions Copy Shop A are now closing in on the First Division title and Travellers B are doing the same in Division Two. However, there is a three horse race in Division Three which looks like going down to the last match of the season.
via Isle Of Man Table Tennis Association ::
Corin Haddock and Tom Noble from Junior Development (shown above) are still searching for a match win but there were shocks in the Isle of Man Table Tennis League this week with Division One leaders Copy Shop A losing to mid-table Strathallan while Division Three table-toppers Peel C were beaten by third placed Travellers D. The only divisional leaders to win their match were Travellers B in Division Two but they were far from comfortable in scraping a narrow 6-4 victory over Copy Shop B.

There was an unfortunate end to the Travellers C v Peel A match when Jackie Gill stumbled backwards, had a nasty fall and was taken to hospital with a badly broken wrist. She had been match-point up against Maggie Mulhern when it happened and Mulhern sportingly conceded the match. The fixture was then abandoned with Travellers conceding the remainder thus moving Peel up to third position. I'm sure we all wish Jackie a speedy recovery and hope she will be back playing table tennis soon.

There were big matches involving the top teams in all three divisions of the Isle of Man Table Tennis League this week. Two of the encounters ended in 5-5 draws but in Division Two the leaders Travellers B moved further ahead following an 8-2 win over third placed Breakaway B.
