Handicap Doubles Cup

Congratulations to Sonja Ryland and Kevin Nicholls who lifted the Handicap Doubles Cup.

At the request of our members we introduced a Doubles competition for the first time.  You could choose your partner and the pair would be handicapped based on thier individual performances in the local league.  An excellent entry meant we could play off in groups to ensure plenty of matches.  A good cross section of standards made it through to the final four semi-finalists.  Jim McIvor and Louis Wilshire just lost out to the father and son pairing of Nick and James Kitchen in the first semi-final while Sonja Ryland and Kevin Nicholls fought back from 2-0 down to defeat Paul Hine and David Davies 11-9 in the fifth to win the second semi-final.

In a tense and exciting final the Buzzards pairing, fresh from taking on the world in Rome, took a 2-1 lead before losing the fourth without winning a point! Nick and James hitting a number of excellent winners to take the final into a final fifth set. Sonja and Kevin took early control in the fifth and never looked back winning the final game 11-8.  A brilliant final with many excellent rallies, Nick and James matching their more experienced opponents shot for shot for much of the match.
