Please note that Teign School is closed 9th-13th August, and therefore our club sessions cannot take place on Friday 11th August and Saturday 12th August – Apologies but it is out of our control.
Teign School Sessions during the summer - With the exception of the weekend mentioned above, the Friday and Saturday sessions will continue uninterrupted through the summer holidays. As you have continued to support the sessions, we are happy to keep them going. Friday nights 19.00-22.00 and Saturday mornings 09.00-12.00. The cost of a 3-hour session remains at £2.50 for students and £3.50 for adults, with reductions for families.
Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club League Teams - We are at present proposing to enter 8 - 10 teams in the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League for the forthcoming season which starts early in October. As teams and players availability are not finalised yet, we are still able to slot players, interested in playing for the club, into teams and it is still possible to enter further teams if we have enough players. Entries to the League have to be in by the end of August. So if you fancy playing League table tennis for Newton Abbot TTC please let me know ASAP and complete the form at the end of this newsletter. There is a small financial commitment for registering with Table Tennis England and the League, but this is no more than a one-off payment of £15 for juniors & £26 for seniors, plus match fee of £5/home match.
With League and Cup matches there will be approximately 20 matches in the season Oct – Apr. All home matches will be played on a Tuesday or Friday night at Teign School 19.00-22.30, while away matches could be any night of the week in places such as Dawlish, Brixham & Torquay. You require 3 players for each match, and I would hope to have teams of 4-5 players to ensure all fixtures can be fulfilled when individual players are unavailable. You may also get an opportunity to play as a reserve for a team in a higher division.

Table Tennis England – As a Premier Club, Table Tennis England would like ALL Newton Abbot TTC players at our club to become members of Table Tennis England. League players, as before, are required to be members in order to play competitively in an affiliated League. However, students and social players not playing in the league are now able to become Associate members, without payment, (previously £4/year). The main benefits for the player is insurance cover and regular TTE newsletters, while increased membership helps Table Tennis England obtain funding. Newton Abbot TTC Annual General Meeting (July 7th) – Another fine season was reported on by the Secretary, with success on the table, a good increase in membership and a solid financial base. A successful grant application to Table Tennis England helped with the purchase of 3 new tables and nets. The club also purchased 3 good quality s/h tables and scoreboards for league matches.
Club Clothing – At our AGM we discussed the possibility of new club match shirts, club hoodies and maybe club T shirts. We are at present looking at possible suppliers and costs. The current thinking is hoodies with the below symbol + Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club, on the back, and your name and your team (if you are in one) on the left front chest. Loads of colours to choose from, possibly Purple or Sapphire Blue are currently the favourite. Approx cost £25 each. T Shirts in red with just the logo on the back would be approx. £9 each. Your views / comments / suggestions would be welcome.
Table Tennis Equipment - We are looking at forming a partnership with Topspin Sports who would offer good discounts on all Donic gear. They supplied all the new club equipment we purchased during the last year at very good prices. I should get some catalogues from them shortly.
Pink Pong cancer research uk charity - Top man and popular TT coach, Jon Cheung, will be taking part in the 'Pink Pong' Relay for Life next weekend in Plymouth. You may have seen we held a draw at our session recently to support this Pink Pong cancer research UK charity fundraiser. If anyone else would like to support Jon with a donation, below is a link to the just giving for the relay for life.
