The Warwickshire Over 40s Veterans exceeded expectations in the first series of County Championship matches following their promotion to Division 1A, winning two and narrowly losing one of their three matches.

The Executive Committee has elected Brian Yeates as President of the Association. Brian is the General Secretary of Eathorpe Table Tennis Club, a position he has held for more than 20 years. He joined Leamington League in the eighties, when his club lost its playing venue in Coventry. They played at Princethorpe briefly until that venue also became unavailable.

On Sunday 8th June, Milly Bradshaw and Olivia Fletcher represented Leamington Spa in the Bromfield Trophy Finals at Westfield Table Tennis Centre, Wellingborough. This event is for the top junior girls’ league teams. It was the first time that Leamington had entered a team in this competition.

On Saturday 7th June, Kate Hughes and Charlotte Spencer represented Leamington Spa in the Rose Bowl Finals at Westfield Table Tennis Centre, Wellingborough.

This event is a contest between the top eight league teams in England, who have qualified through regional , zonal rounds.

The ETTA is encouraging clubs to register with the Things To Do section of the BBC website and promote their activities there.

The site works on a postcode-search basis, with users able to search sports activities in a certain area. It therefore provides a great opportunity for clubs to recruit new members by advertising their events.

Ryan Stockham of Coventry’s Phoenix club was crowned Leamington Men’s Singles Champion on Saturday when the Finals of the Leamington Closed were staged at Kenilworth Wardens cricket club. In the semi-final he defeated Rugby’s Jesse Kendrick-Hill in 4 and then collared St Georges’ Mark Jackson also in 4.

The Leamington Closed championships were staged at St Nicholas Leisure Centre in Warwick on Sunday and provided many exciting tussles. Most of the Finals will be played on 12th April at Kenilworth Wardens Cricket Club with the two semi-finals of the Men’s Singles also being a feature.

76 Entries much as last year but we are still on the lookout for Under 13/Under 11 Boys and Veteran Ladies and Over 70 Mens to fillout small or not happening events.

St Nicholas Leisure Centre, Warwick, attracted 65 entries for the Lillington Free Church Graded tournament on Saturday. The star was undoubtedly St Georges’ Martyn Todd who romped to victory in both the feature events, securing the Senior title over Church’s Deepak Chandrababu and the Grade A event against fellow Georges’ man Luke Hobbins.

The County Over 40s Veterans narrowly missed out on the Division 2A title after an engrossing weekend of matches in Wellingborough. Needing to equal Staffordshire’s result in the final round, Warwickshire could only manage a draw against a strong and determined Norfolk side, while Staffordshire eased to victory against Northamptonshire.

Warwickshire Juniors headed into the final round of matches of the County Division 1a championships at Westfield TTC, Weavers Leisure centre with relegation for the second successive season a distinct possibility. With only 2 points separating them from both South Yorkshire and Worcestershire and the dreaded drop, Warwickshire needed to secure 3 points from their remaining 4 fixtures in order to cement their place in the division.

The Cadet Squad fought hard but with 3 teams out of 8 being demoted it was virtually impossible to avoid a return to Division 1
