PARKHOUSE Pairs Final rounds

FINAL

The popular PARKHOUSE Pairs tournament reached its conclusion in the sweltering heat at Teign School on Friday 17th June 2022.

20 teams entered the tournament with over 60 players taking part in the competition which started back at the beginning of April.

Taverners the winners of the Wobbly Table Division were up against the Condors who swept all teams aside in the Missing Veneer Division. Taverners selected Martin Dilkes and Geoff Read to play the singles with Colin Harrop coming in to play the doubles. Condors being a 2 man team had no selection issues with Bob Parkins and Dan Webster-Hall yet to lose a match.
Bob Parkins recovered from 5-0 down in the fifth against Geoff Read in the first match to put the Condors one up and when Dan Webster-Hall saw off Martin Dilkes in the second encounter it was going to be difficult for the Taverners, who then had to win all the remaining sets.  Dan Webster-Hall completed an excellent tournament with his 16th win out of 16 with a victory over Geoff Read and the PARKHOUSE Pairs cup was the Condors.

Taverners did strike back with Martin Dilkes beating Bob Parkins and Colin Harrop joining Martin in defeating Bob and Dan in the final doubles to make the 3-2 scoreline respectable.

Congratulations to the inaugural PARKHOUSE Pairs Champions - Condors - Bob Parkins and Dan Webster-Hall
Many thanks to Dennis Gibbs for umpiring the final and a massive thank you to Fred Wakefield of PARKHOUSE furniture restorers for his generous sponsorship. Excellent trophies and embroidered caps for all and even a Malt for the tournament organiser!

Cheers ??

SEMI-FINALS

Back on track following last weekend’s Jubilee celebrations and the Semi-finals of the PARKHOUSE  Pairs alongside our normal club session.
Halwell who squeezed into the semis as the best runner up were up against the undefeated NA Condors. Chris Dunn defeating Bob Parkins saw Halwell into an early lead, but that was the only point they managed as Dan Webster-Hall kept up his 100% record with wins over both Mark Smith and Chris Dunn. Bob Parkins victory over Mark Smith clinching the final spot for the Condors.
The other semi-final pitched the winners of the Wobbly Table Division, Taverners, with the Knackered Chair champs, D.A.R.T.S (does anybody remember the score).  Colin Harrop got the Taverners off to a good start defeating Mike Dummett, and Martin Dilkes followed up with a win over Tim Shears. Taverners needed just one more victory for a place in the final. Mike Dummett fought back for the D.A.R.T.S. defeating  Martin Dilkes. Colin Harrop took the Taverners into the final with a win over Tim Shears and then joined Martin Dilkes to take the final doubles and a 4-1 win.
So next weeks final will be between the Condors and Taverners.
Many thanks to the competition sponsor, Fred Wakefield, PARKHOUSE furniture restorers, who presented divisional winners trophies and embroidered caps to D.A.R.T.S. who topped the Knackered Chair division.
A fine cup and more awards to be presented next week as the inaugural winners of the PARKHOUSE pairs cup will be determined! ????????????
