Stratford Herald Week Beginning November 6th

The only league action of the week saw Shottery A record a fourth successive whitewash to go to the top of the table. Gary Stewart, Stephen Foster and Graham Poole all delivered perfect performances against Henley A, although Poole had to overturn an early deficit before defeating Peter Quince in the only game to go the full distance.

Shottery A now have 55 points, five ahead of JLM Falcons and 15 more than third placed Colebridge Pasties with all three teams having played six matches. However, newcomers Snitterfield are also very much in the title race with 26 points from just three fixtures.

In the preliminary round of the knockout cup the Tanworth Taipans trio of Tim Lawrence, Mick Welsh and Denis Kynaston defeated FISSC by 66 points. This was reduced by just two after application of the handicap and saw them through to the next stage where they will entertain Ashorne.

Colebridge Pasties advanced at the expense of Shottery B with Tom Shortley and Mike Evetts in impressive form to record advantages of 74 and 52 points respectively. They received solid support from Mike Klein and, despite having to concede 30 points in the adjustment, still had a healthy winning margin of 109.

The JLM Falcons team of Kevin Taylor, Stef Mytton and Jonny Lyons accumulated 89 points more than Blazing Paddles during open play to which the handicap added a further eleven to give them a very comfortable final advantage of 100.

Also through to the final stages of the competition are Henley B who defeated Veterans. The match saw the first clash between former West Warwicks team-mates Peter Rodwell and Andy Rowland with Rodwell performing well to take a 10-6 lead in their first set, only for his opponent to hit a purple patch to secure the next 15 points. It was Rowland who led the way for Henley B by acquiring an advantage of 79 over the course of his three games, to which Tony Seymour and Rob McCluskey added a further 40 to ensure a comfortable victory.

The next round of cup matches are due to be played during the week commencing 12th February 2018.
