West Warwicks 3 – 7 Shottery A
Henley A 10 – 0 FISSC
FISSC 3 – 7 West Warwicks
Henley B 5 – 5 Veterans
Alison Stewart singlehandedly inflicted twice the damage upon Shottery A than all their previous opponents had managed so far this season. The champions had only lost a single set before the West Warwicks captain defeated both Graham and Robert Poole in straight games. Don McAdam gained the team’s third success with a victory over the distance against Robert but, in the only other encounter to go to the wire, narrowly lost to his father Graham. Fortunately for Shottery Gary Stewart acquired his usual treble as well as successfully partnering Graham Poole in the doubles.
McAdam also figured for Henley A in their whitewash of FISSC. Again he was involved in the only contest to go to a decider where he overcame Peter Florence. Other than that it was all plain sailing for the Villagers with Mike Evetts and Peter Quince also recording trebles.
In their next outing FISSC entertained West Warwicks for whom Stewart and Andy Rowland both emerged with their records intact. The Farmers’ trio of Florence, Peter Bruce-Moore and Richard Bennett each went home with a single victory.
Henley B were involved in a hard fought draw with Veterans. Gordon Trinder delivered a excellent unbeaten performance, the pick of his sets being a five-game thriller against Mark Kingham. Robert McCluskey added a brace after victories over the distance against John Hunt and George Mudie, but he was prevented from making it a perfect evening by Kingham. Veterans’ scores came from Kingham with a brace, Hunt and Mudie while the latter pair also overcame an initial deficit to claim the doubles.
