SUMMER LEAGUE FINALS DAY

The Semi Finals of the Summer league were played at The Civil Service Club on Saturday 16th September.
The 4 teams that qualified were St George Beach Bums, Portishead Pirates, Filton A and Cleeve and Claverham.
The draw was made and the matches were as follows.
Cleeve and Claverham, (Luke Berry, Martin Cope & Tom Walker) vs Portishead Pirates ( Robert White, Serhii Herheliuk & Adisha Bale)
St George Beach Bums (Leo Dobney, Jack Vaughan & Keith Nesbitt vs Filton A ( Yingri Qian, Frederick Yung & Steve Hicks)
Cleeve and Claverham beat Portishead Pirates by just 3 points. The match finished 4½ - 4½ but thanks to the 3 point advantage Cleeve took the 2 winning points to go into the final.
St George only won 3½ matches with Filton winning 5½ matches but by virtue of winning the 2 points having scored 9 points more they went through to the final.
Commiserations to Portishead Pirates and Filton A but thanks go to them for playing in very sporting semifinals.
THE FINAL
Cleeve got off to a winning start with Luke beating Leo 52 – 42. The handicap gave him a 32 point advantage and he won by 10 points.
Tom was next up for Cleeve, playing Jack with a 34 point advantage, Jack won by 4 points.
Next was Martin against Keith but even with a 4 point disadvantage Keith won by 15 points.
Looking good for St George!!! 9 points up and 2 - 1
Tom next up against Leo with a 33-point advantage which he made good use of to win by 3 points.
Luke next against Jack with a 33-point advantage giving him a win by 3 points.
Tom is up for his last game against Keith with a 33-point advantage. He made good use of the handicap to win by 1 point.
Score 3 -2 to Cleeve but St George lead by 2 points!!!
EXCITING!!!
Martin now enters the fray for his 2nd game playing against Leo taking a 6-point advantage into the game. He won by 9 points.
In the penultimate game Luke took a 31 point advantage into battle against Keith. The game was amazing and in the end, Luke ran out the winner by 21 points having lost the first game 9 – 21. Final Score 61 – 40
The final game was between Martin and Jack. Jack was giving away 15 points due to the handicap but ended up winning the game by 10 points.
The end result was that CLEEVE & CLAVERHAM became the SUMMER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2023 by virtue of a 6 -3 games win and 2 points overall score win 390 – 373
Congratulations go to Cleeve and Claverham on their victory, with thanks to St George for playing so sportingly in what was a very enjoyable match to watch.
