Use Of Reserves In Doubles

09-10-2024 We are still getting requests for clarification of the reserves rules so republishing this article from 21st February

At the Monday rules meeting it was decided to provide further clarification when reserves are allowed to play in the doubles because we have had reports that some people have an incorrect understanding.

If a player is a reserve in the same division as their assigned team then they are not allowed to play in the doubles. This was addressed in an article on the websites in October and is covered by rule 14a where it explicitly states reserves are not allowed to play in the doubles

Bristol Table Tennis League | TT Leagues

If a player is a reserve in a higher division then they are allowed to play in the doubles. Playing in a higher division is covered by rule 14c and there is no constraint on players playing in the doubles.
