Shottery A gained an 8-2 victory over their own third string to maintain the pressure on league leaders Henley Pasties. Gary Stewart recorded his all-too-familiar treble with something to spare. Stephen Foster was also unbeaten and, in the most keenly contested encounter of the evening, his resilient defence was just enough to overcome the attack of Rob Poole enabling him to claim their set 11-9 in the fifth game. Poole had the consolation of acquiring the family bragging rights by defeating his father Graham who, in another contest to go the full distance, also narrowly lost to the continually improving Kevin Taylor.
The result means that, at the mid season break, Shottery A trail Pasties by five points although, crucially, they have a match in hand.
In the absence of their captain Tim Fell, Taylor was called up by Shottery B when they entertained Ashorne, and he obliged by recording a perfect score without the loss of a game. Gareth Hepworth was also untroubled and Tony Remes added a brace. Remes was involved in both sets to be settled in the decider with contrasting fortunes. He overcame Steve Kay, who was making his first appearance of the season, but lost out to Roger Pye who thereby ensured the visitors avoided the whitewash. Shottery B’s victory sees them start the New Year in third position, 13 points ahead of Henley B who are the most improved team of the campaign having already attained 67 points, just 25 short of their total for the whole of last season.

About Us
The Stratford Table Tennis League continues to swell, with 15 registered teams competing in the Winter 19/20 season. Sadly, Covid19 has forced the cancellation of the 3 a side league competition this year. On a positive note , Stratford upon Avon Tennis Club has created a socially distanced 2 a side league , which begins this week ( October 19th 2020 ). Hopefully , this encouraging development will be the foreshadow of a return to a full league programme, once it becomes safe to do so.
Stratford upon Avon Table Tennis Club open sessions at the towns centrally located leisure centre are proving to be enormously popular , there is every reason to believe that there is huge potential for further growth of this most accessible of sports.
