Stratford Herald Week Beginning October 16th

Henley A took an early lead against their second string when Peter Quince overturned a deficit to defeat Robert McCluskey in the only game to go to a decider. However it was then all downhill for the senior side as the remaining clashes went the way of their opponents. Andy Rowland and Dave Milton delivered perfect performances with McCluskey adding a brace as the match ended 9-1.

Trebles from Mick Welsh and Tim Lawrence provided the backbone to Tanworth Taipans 7-3 win at Ashorne. However Lawrence was was made to work hard after being two sets behind to Steve Bolton, and also initially losing out to Roger Pye,  before fighting back to defeat both over the full distance. Denis Kynaston added Taipans other score. The hosts’ Steve Bolton subsequently enjoyed a reversal of his earlier fortune when he set aside loss of the first two sets to defeat Kynaston. Roger Pye also got on the card for Ashorne and successfully partnered Bolton in the doubles.

Kevin Taylor and debutant Steve Cull were undefeated as JLM Falcons overcame Veterans 7-3. Unusually they brought in a fourth player for the doubles where Cull and captain Luke Moffat took the honours. Mark Kingham, David Higgins and Brian Marston each recorded a win for their opponents.

Falcons made it two victories in a week when they visited Tanworth in a rearranged fixture. Taylor was again untroubled while Stef Mytton also chalked up a treble. Mandy Sylvester marked her first appearance in the Stratford league with a brace but couldn't prevent Welsh from gaining a consolation victory for the hosts.

Colebridge Pasties, after being on the receiving end of a whitewash in their previous fixture, turned the tables on FISSC with Mike Evetts, Mike Credland and Jason Rainey sweeping all before them.

A more surprising 10-0 demolition occurred when Shottery A took on their B team and revenged the two defeats they received from them last season. It was all one-way traffic as Gary Stewart, Stephen Foster and Rob Poole conceded just four sets over the course of the match.
