The new Stratford club's four league sides experienced contrasting fortunes in the latest round of fixtures.
Stratford A imposed a clean sweep upon their hosts Ashorne with Richard Grover, Kannan Nithi and Alex Boyd all untroubled. However two of their other teams were on the receiving end of maximums from strong opposition. Stratford C lost out to Snitterfield for whom John Price, Alison Stewart and Clive Irwin notched trebles, although the latter conceded his first set of the campaign to Rob Bartkowski. Stratford D were defeated in the same manner by Shottery A with their experienced trio of Gary Stewart, Stephen Foster and Graham Poole all producing perfect performances.
Braces from Harry Azima and Kevin Taylor weren't quite enough to earn Stratford B a share of the spoils when they were entertained by Blazing Paddles. Taylor was made to work hard by Tadge Sabatowski before overcoming an early deficit to win over five ends. He and Azima were also taken to a decider in the crucial doubles where the honours finally went to their opponents' pairing of Sabatowski and Nello Mauri. Peter Florence was unable to add to the visitors' haul despite twice going the full distance. He fell at the final hurdle to Wilf Chan, before recovering from a two set deficit to Mauri only to be defeated in the fifth. Mauri proved Paddles' matchwinner by recording a treble, with Chan and Sabatowski each earning a point.
Henley were only represented by two players when they took on Veterans, but they were both undefeated thereby enabling them to finish 7-3 winners. The match began with the clash between Nigel Payne and Peter Rodwell with the former narrowly claiming their opening set 22-20 before clinching victory over four ends. This was followed by the only contest to go the full distance where Geoff Shephard and Neil Mudie were neck and neck until the Henley player finally edged home.
Colebridge Pasties are tied at the top of the table on 55 points with Stratford A after a 9-1 win at JLM Kingfishers. Rod Lewis and Mike Credland both secured trebles without the loss of a set, with Mahroof Hussain adding a brace. However, in the final singles game of the match, Henry Clarke edged home in a close contest with Hussain to provide Kingfishers' only consolation.

The Stratford Table Tennis League continues to swell, with 15 registered teams competing in the Winter 19/20 season. Sadly, Covid19 has forced the cancellation of the 3 a side league competition this year. On a positive note , Stratford upon Avon Tennis Club has created a socially distanced 2 a side league , which begins this week ( October 19th 2020 ). Hopefully , this encouraging development will be the foreshadow of a return to a full league programme, once it becomes safe to do so.
Stratford upon Avon Table Tennis Club open sessions at the towns centrally located leisure centre are proving to be enormously popular , there is every reason to believe that there is huge potential for further growth of this most accessible of sports.
