This weeks incisive analysis from Peter Florence :
Nigel Payne produced a treble for Henley when they were entertained by Blazing Paddles, although he had to put aside an initial deficit before overcoming Nello Mauri in the fifth set. However his team were only able to add one further success from Peter Quince. Mauri recovered from his initial defeat to chalk up a brace, which was emulated by Wilf Chan who successfully turned the tide after losing the first two ends at deuce to Quince. Tadge Sabatowski gave Paddles a fifth point to ensure the final outcome of the match hinged upon the concluding doubles. Payne and Quince looked on course to earn their team a share of the spoils after taking a two set lead, only for Mauri and Sabatowski to launch a comeback to claim the contest over the full distance and give Paddles a 6-4 win.
Clive Irwin produced a perfect performance for Snitterfield who came away from Colebridge Bulldogs with an 8-2 victory. He was well supported by John Price and Phil Paine who added braces, although neither was able to overcome Dean Hicks who earned both the hosts' points.
The Stratford B trio of Richard Grover, Michael Klein and debutant Duncan Arrandale inflicted the whitewash upon Veterans. Neil Mudie came close to earning some reward for his team but, in the only contest to go beyond three sets, lost out in the decider to Klein.
These three matches conclude the first stage of the 2019-20 season during which all 15 teams have played each other. Action will resume during the last week of February when the top eight teams will form the first division, with the remainder competing in the second tier.
Points already acquired will be carried forward thereby providing Shottery A with a lead of five over the other premier teams, while their stablemates Shottery B and Blazing Paddles both commence with an advantage of two points over their nearest rivals in division two.

The Stratford Table Tennis League continues to swell, with 15 registered teams competing in the Winter 19/20 season. Sadly, Covid19 has forced the cancellation of the 3 a side league competition this year. On a positive note , Stratford upon Avon Tennis Club has created a socially distanced 2 a side league , which begins this week ( October 19th 2020 ). Hopefully , this encouraging development will be the foreshadow of a return to a full league programme, once it becomes safe to do so.
Stratford upon Avon Table Tennis Club open sessions at the towns centrally located leisure centre are proving to be enormously popular , there is every reason to believe that there is huge potential for further growth of this most accessible of sports.
