DALTON DEMOLISH DALLAM TO HEAD TOP FLIGHT TABLE
Dalton CC A look to be Natland A’s biggest rivals at the top of Division One in the Kendal and District Table Tennis League, as a 9-1 victory against Dallam B propelled them into pole position.
Dalton’s Keith Dymond, Ryan Smith and Paul Ackred eased through the singles matches, notching up a 9-0 advantage. Dallam finally got themselves on the score-sheet when Paul Gosling and Craig James teamed up in the doubles to win 6-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-7 against Smith and Ackred. The result leaves Dalton with a three advantage at the summit, while Dallam B lie in eighth position.
Ibis are positioned in second place after demolishing Natland B 10-0. Natland came close to getting themselves on the score-sheet when Mark Ashburn and Luke Biggins lost out in epic five setters 11-9 and 18-16 against Trevor Nicholson and James McGrath respectively. The Kendal side’s man of the match was Steve Dixon who won all three games with ease.
Natland A lie in third place, six points off first place but with a crucial game in hand over their rivals, after beating Dalton CC B 8-2. Dalton’s Gareth Brunton beat Harry Carter and replacement Luke Biggins, although Roger Pimblett’s three victories, which included a five set success against Keith Mallinson, helped steer Natland to victory.
In Division Two, Kirkby Stephen A recorded their thirteenth straight victory as they crushed Burton C 9-1. Peter George and Francesca Currie won two five setters for Kirkby 11-8 and 11-7 against Peter Hunt and Bryan Rhodes respectively. Burton opened their account courtesy of Rhodes’s 11-2 success in the fourth set against Dave White. White’s team mates Currie and George steadied the ship and progressed through the battle with three wins apiece.
Crook B lie in second place twenty-three points behind the leaders despite triumphing 7-3 against Kirkby Stephen B. Crook’s Bob Bagot remained unbeaten but was made to work in a 10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-1 narrow victory against an unfortunate Andrew Leach. Kirkby’s points came courtesy of John Metcalfe’s wins against Ed Lister and Tony Cousins and Leach’s victory against the former.
In Division Three, leaders Grayrigg A mauled Natland F 30-5. Grayrigg’s Sam Housego and Doug Baxter won their matches with ease but Anthea Bevan nearly toppled Ben Littlewood in a five set epic which the Grayrigg player edged 12-10.
Second placed Burton E are now thirty three points behind the leaders, but with a game in hand, despite edging beyond Grayrigg B 20-18.
