Kirkby Stephen Juniors Excel

The annual Kendal & District Table Tennis League Junior Tournament took place in the Burton-in-Kendal Memorial Hall on Friday, January 4th. 19 junior players competed in under 15, under 12 and under 10 events. Four of the League’s clubs were represented with 8 players from Kirkby Stephen, 7 from Dallam and 2 each from Burton and Natland. The event started and 9.30 and finished at 1.00. Play was in round robin groups which meant that everyone got plenty of matches. The under 15 (cadets) event was won by Ben Allison from Kirkby Stephen with Dallam’s Henry Clare the runner up. Kirkby Stephen’s Toby Clarke won the under 12s with Jonathan Broadbent of Burton the runner up. In the Under 10s, 8 year old Nicholas Morrell of Dallam was victorious with Kirkby Stephen’s Zak Allison, also 8, the runner up. A good standard of play was seen in all events and all of the children competed in a sporting manner and umpired willingly and enthusiastically. Thanks go to Norman Philbey, Martin Wakelin and Mike Sunderland for organising and running the event.
