Martin Hewett surrenders Ping Pong crown

The Maidstone Hard Bat Ping Pong tournament was held at the Larkfield Club on Sunday 3rd September 2023. Working Mens Martin Hewett, who had won the Open Singles event for the past two years finally surrendered his crown to Graham French in a quality final 15-8, 13-15, 12-15 containing a combination of hard-hitting attacks and sound defence.

Hewett beat Sue Pingram 15-7, 15-10 in one semifinal while French defeated Mark Steeden 15-11, 15-11 in the other semi.

In the U40 age group event Sam Woodcock beat Patrick Jeffrey, while in the 40 -59 age group Martin Hewett beat Claire Blackman 15-5, 15-8. Blackman had an excellent semifinal win over Tim Vaughan 15-12, 11-15, 15-7.

In the O60’s event Graham French proved too strong for Sue Pingram winning 15-1, 15-7 in the final.
