Summer League final report

Congratulations to the St George Demons team of (from left) Steve Hooper, Nail Darnley and Peter Bunda, who fought off all the competition to win the Bristol District Summer League title at Bristol Civil Service on Saturday.

The Demons comfortably beat Not So Civil Service eight-and-a-half to two-and-a-half in the final, after earlier seeing off Page in the semis. Not So Civil Servers gambled by changing their entire team for the final, having comfortably beaten a young Portishead Minnows team in the other semi-final.

Neil and Peter were the St George heroes in the semi-final against Page, both winning all three of their matches in a 9-2 victory. Page's Dave Webber, and Nick Lock (guesting for Page as their regular players were unable to attend) both beat Steve Hooper, and Laimonas Setkus came within a point of overcoming Neil.

In the other semi-final Portishead’s Long Yin Au (Arron) put up heroic resistance to win all three of his matches, but the Not So Civil Servers' trio of Kirk Holland, David Crabbe and Joe Sheffield proved too strong for both Ffion and Nye Evans in an 8-3 victory.

In the final, Not So Civil Servers refreshed their team with Sol Bowra, Dylan Williams and Morgan Stanfield-Matthew stepping in, but they came up against an outstanding performance from Peter Bunda who, once again, won all of his matches. Morgan did beat Steve Hooper and got a draw with Neil Darnley, while Dylan used his handicap well to beat Neil by two points, but that was as good as it got. With the Demons winning the remaining matches and having a massive lead on the overall points total they picked up the two bonus points for a comfortable victory.
