I am unfortunately just passing on the sad news that Chris Walton died last night after a battle this year with cancer.Chris played for many years in the Northumberland League for Oxhill YC and latterly Newton.I just thought I would share this with the table tennis community
The Mount A team of Graeme Barella, Phil Prady and Dave Pringle also made a great start by defeating Cramlington Stingers by the same score and an unbeaten performance by Tony Gelder saw their B side win 7 – 3 when they entertained Cramlington Casuals.
The Mount C team also made a winning start with a 6 - 4 victory over Cramlington Stingers, Tony Gelder being undefeated while Saint Chads defeated Old England Jacks 8 - 2.

Prior to the start of the new season in the Northumbria League several of the local players took part in the Northern Veterans tournament which was staged in Newcastle this year.
He also reached the semi finals of the Over 40s Mixed doubles with Emma Rose of Hertfordshire.
The winter season of the Northumbria League gets under way next week when fifty teams will start in five divisions.
Cramlington have also lost Steve Penman but they will still have fifteen sides spread throughout the various divisions.
as have Matfen.
Matfen Senators, who finished as runners up in the second division, were beaten for the first time in their final match away to Tyneside TTC. Despite a hat trick from Alex Holliday they went down 6 - 4 . Mark Kimberley and Steve Dickinson each had a couple of wins for the victors.

Saint Chads finished as runners up in the first division of the Northumbria Summer League when they defeated Cramlington Casuals 7- 3 with Chris Blake winning all of his singles matches and combining with Jimmy Scope to take the doubles.

The Prudhoe and District side of Mark O'Connor, Andrew Benjamin and Peter Stempczyk were far too strong for Mitford and a 10 - 0 victory gives them a seven point lead at the top of the Second Division over Matfen Senators with only one match to play.

At the other end of the table the Chinese outfit N.E.C.A. managed a draw against Mount B team with Adam Webster unbeaten. Another player to win all of his matches in the top division was Lee Tinkler of Brandon Air in a drawn match with Cramlington Casuals.

However the match ended in a draw when Atwell beat Cook and Hill defeated Nicholl.
The top sides in the Third Division were both successful with Mount C beating Ravens 8 - 2 and Sacriston Bombers overcoming Brandon Crusaders by the same score.

The top two sides Mount A and St. Chads both had 7 - 3 victories against Brandon Air and N.E.C.A. respectively.
Long and Chhabra were again undefeated as they went on to beat Cramlington Dynamos 8 - 2.

Unfortunately Roberts and Cutler were both on the losing side when Mount B lost 7 - 3 to Cramlington Casuals who had James Bradbury in top form with a hat trick.

Adam Webster was unbeaten for the North East Chinese Association in the First Divison of the Northumbria Summer League but his team lost out 6 - 4 to Brandon Air for whom Jamie Lupton and Troy Maddison both won their other sets.

As President of the Northumberland Table Tennis Association I would like to pay tribute to the late Larry Cartmell with whom I had the pleasure to work with in the eighties for the benefit of the Association.
My sincere condolences go to his family.
It was a slightly disappointing set of results for Northumberland Table Tennis League players at last weekend’s VETTS Northern Masters. Thirteen players travelled to Preston to enjoy a mix of top quality table tennis and top quality social interaction.

The other Mount Premier team was also in action as the B team travelled to China Town to face NECA A. Jamie Dent managed to beat recently-signed Newcastle University student Harry Saxton but neither he nor teammates Rodney Roberts and Dan Dodds were able to beat Chun Yin Yu or Adam Webster.
...Ouston B travelled down the road to face a Saints line-up of Steve Dawson, Ray Joynson and Ken Greatbatch. Joynson won 2, losing out to Jeff Mckenna, Dawson beat Kevin Richardson but that was all the home side could manage as they lost 5-3 overall.

Both Old England teams cruised to victory in Division 1 this week as the Crocks beat Tyneside A and the Jacks beat Ouston A. Tyneside and Ouston both find themselves in a relegation scrap after the half-way point and desperately need to pick up points if they want to stay in the division.
At the other end of the table relegation threatens Cramlington Stingers and Tigers along with Newton.
Cramlington TTC could also lose two teams from this division with both the Trojans and Cobras currently in the bottom three along with Newton B.
