Sdttl 2016/17 Winter Season -
Week 5
Premier Division:- A couple of close games to kick off week 5. First came Thorpe Bay B’s 5—4 win over Castle Point with Keiran Skeggs putting in a MoM performance with three good wins backed up with two from Gurj Bhambra. The second 5-4 win of the week came for Rayleigh Mill as they overcame Lentern A 5-4. Minda Sinkus and Duncan Taylor with the 5 wins for the Millers with Taylor beating Wale Bada in the last game of the night and the scores locked at 4-4.
Elsewhere there were more convincing wins for Warehouse A over Customs A and Rawreth over title rivals Thorpe Bay A. The Warehouse trio of Kim Shead, Martin Turner and James Marshall only dropped one game in an 8-1 win over Customs while Paul Whatton’s two good wins over George Reeves and Kevin Read were all Thorpe Bay A had to show in a 7-2 win for the reigning champions for who Tony Halling went unbeaten.
Any finally this week, hatricks for Justin Jeffrey and Mike Hayes were enough to see Rawreth B home 6-3 over Hockley A
Duncan Taylor -,Prem. Div DRS
Division 1. Hadleigh Forum B returned to action this week with a dominating display to beat Lentern D, 9-0, only dropping two games on the way. Tony Jacks, Mick Tappenden and Gus Heath turned in the Ace performance and on this form are looking hard to dislodge from the top of the table.
Canvey A were without a game this week but remain second, 5 points behind Forum A.
Invicta A are having a good season and leapfrogged into 3rd with a close 5-4 win over Lentern C. A good allround team performance was enough to take the points with Michael Piper and Steve Marr scoring two each for the victors. Martin Archie scored two for the strong losers in a match where no-one was unbeaten and everyone contributed at least one point. This leaves Lentern C in 4th place.
Again a strong Hullbridge C team move into 5th with a good team performance against Hullbridge D winning 5-4 thanks to two each from Pete Saunders and Lin Roff and a first victory for Richard Gill returning to the sport after a lengthy lay-off. Matt Rolfe put up stiff resistance winning all three of his games but only Ben Matthews was able to add an additional point to give the victory and bragging rights to the C team, leaving the D team at the wrong end of the table.
Despite going down 6-3 this week to Hadleigh Forum C, Warehouse B occupy 6th spot in the league. Russell Bright turned in a star unbeaten performance for Forum C with Mark Everard adding two and Charles Yeung one. Martin West added two for Warehouse but lost his 100% record against Russell, going down 11-9 in the fifth set.
Lentern B cling to 7th despite losing 6-3 to Rawreth C who played their first match of the season. Chris Aukett with a hattrick and Colin Clements with two did the main damage that will surely see them at the top end of the table once they have played their games in hand. John Lott was the pick of the Lentern players scoring two in what was a bad week for the Lentern club overall in this division, with all three teamslosing.
Hockley B boosted their points tally with a close 5-4 win over Castle Point B, who must start to pick up some points to get off the bottom of the table. Antipodean Dave Colwill was the star of the Hockley team winning his three games supported by Paul Strutt and Keith Abbott with one apiece. Two wins for Mike Grout and an excellent two wins for Tony Ayliffe gave Castle Point their 4 points with Martin Roberts unable to make any headway on the game.
Barrie Delf - Div - DRS
Division 2. Leaders Hullbridge E were given a bit of a fright when they visited Runnymede this week. The home side’s Dmitry Kisil’s hat trick was not quite enough to overcome the young visitors, though. Hullbridge scraped through 5 -4.
Second place Hockey C had a more comfortable visit to RESSC, winning 7 – 2. Captain Stuart Adshead’s maximum lead his side by example, with good support from Josh Copeland and Martin Scarfe, who both won two each. Stan Dyson got both his side’s points.
Invicta B also won 7 – 2 away at Castle Point D, to record their first win of the season. Mike Keeble was unbeaten, with two wins apiece from Barrie Murphy and Richard Verrinder. John Beddow was responsible for both the hosts’ points.
Canvey B also triumphed away from home, overcoming Wakering 6 – 3, thanks to a Tony Westwell hat trick. Zac England’s pair was the best performance for the home side.
Rawreth E had a comfortable 8 – 1 win over Castle Point C. Andy Deadman and Botond Meze were both unbeaten, whilst David Jacob saved the visitors’ blushes.
Ross Warner was Canvey C’s star in their 7 – 2 win over Basildon Hospital. His treble, together with two each from Harry Keys and Stuart Curham were too much for the visitors. Basildon fielded two debutants, Abhinandan Bidari and Jayanand Shivapujimath. They will hope for better nights ahead.
A Matt Barber hat trick helped Rawreth D to a 6 – 3 winaway to Warehouse C. James Spencer won two for thehome side, whilst a special mention should be made ofRawreth’s young Olivia Jones, who recorded her firstwin of the season.
David Barnes Div 2 DRS
Division 3. Second placed Canvey D met third placed Stanford Le Hope B in a top of the table clash and, as you would expect, produced a very tight match. Stanford took a 2-0 lead Before Canvey took the next two with Steve Parker coming back from 2-0 down against Nathan Jones winning 11-5 in the fifth, and Steve Robinson overcoming Vaughan Chambers. Matches then went in turn and with the score at 4-4 it was Peter Handscombewho won the match for Stanford edging out Steve Robinson in three close games. That completed Peter’s hat trick and left Stanford just two points behind Canvey in the table.
The youngsters of Hullbridge H picked up their first win of the season beating Warehouse E 5-4. Overall it was a magnificent team performance as they raced into a 3-0 lead only for Warehouse to fight back closing the gap to 4-3. Harrison Sadler then stepped up to become the hero beating the experienced Graham Back 3-1 to clinch the win for Hullbridge. Harrison recorded his first hat trick and was backed up by a win each for Toby Zeffie and Ellena Hart. Larry Lisner won two for Warehouse.
Hullbridge G returned to winning ways with a comfortable 7-2 win over their F team. Dave Booroffand Lewis Ritchie both recorded hat tricks with Bill Hoy winning one but it was Lewis who stole the show recording his best performance so far this season. Bill Singleton Smith and Janet Finch got the points for the F team who now sit 5th in the table on the same number of points as the G team who sit 4th, as they have won more games.
Surprise package of the season has been the juniors of Rawreth F who have suffered over the last two seasons but have started really well this year winning three of their first four games. This week, without the unbeaten Ryan Williams, they suffered their second defeat to Hockley E 7-2, but there was a good performance from Keenan Ford who picked up two wins on the night against Kevin Blythe and, after a long five sets, against Ron Rogerson. Phil Pond was the star for Hockley winning all three games with two wins each for Kevin and Ron.
