We start with a close match between the two top sides in the division that ended 5-4 to Rawreth A. The pivotal game of the evening was between the outstanding players on each side, James Denyer for Thorpe Bay and Steve Tilson (pictured below) for Rawreth. Denyer had several match points in the 5th game but Steve fought back to win 12-10. Then with the match tied at 4-4 Tilson beat Paul Sayer in 4 games to win the match and collect his hat trick.
A cracking game to kick start the report for week 13 between Brand Identity A and Hadleigh Forum A. It was a game that saw the rare occurrence of all players winning at least one game with the Forum just coming out on top 5-4 due to two wins a piece from Hamish Innes and Dave Bassett.
What could have been a tough night turned out to be a comfortable one for Rawreth B who scored an emphatic 8-1 victory over a strong Hadleigh Forum A side. Matt Spero was at his imperious best sweeping aside all challengers 3 straight! In doing so he picks up yet another MoM award. Mike Hayes also picked up a hattrick while Dave Bassett manged to beat Babul Mcleod in 5 sets for Hadleigh's single point of the match.
Lentern A take the lead at the top of the table after a solid 9-0 win over Lentern B, which is the first of three derby matches this week. Martin Archie, Peter Cranmer and Elaine Sayer provided the A team with full points, with only one game going the distance.
Hockley B and Lentern A are joint top even though both teams slipped up and lost their matches this week, but are matching results point-for-point, the only difference is that Lentern have a game in hand.
Rawreth B gained a much needed win in emphatic style beating Stanford A 9-0. However at one point they were down to 2 men with the rest of the team either travelling or recuperating after operations! Their saviour was Eric Green (pictured) who managed to make the match and more than made up the numbers by winning all his 3 matches and picking up the MoM award. He was ably supported by Matt Spero and Mike Hayes.
Hullbridge C were on the wrong end of the result as they went down by the finest of margins to Thorpe Bay B. Liam Squirrel with a hattrick and Gurj Bhambra with two in this one while there was a good win for Dan Zeffie over Bhambra for Hullbridge. There was success for the Hullbridge A team though as they beat Rayleigh Mill 5-4. Duncan Taylor with three for the Millers alongside a good 12-10 in the 5th win for Colin Chatfield over Richard Brown.
Rawreth A hit the heights in more than one way this week as they recorded an astonishing 9-0 victory over the 16/17 Champs Hullbridge A and in doing so went to the top of the table. New signing Minda Sinkus led the way with three wins but equally impressive were Sinkus’s teammates Kevin Read and Zayd Mauthoor who were also unbeaten for the Rawreth side.
