Hannah Harbour & Mark Mulley

Take the Singles Titles at the 2025 Annual Closed Championships

We hope you all enjoyed this seasons Closed Championships held over the weekend of 14/15/16 February at the Rayleigh Leisure Centre, and the Finals Night at the Plumberow Primary Academy, Hockley

The first final was the Over 40s Singles, where Rayliegh Mill’s Duncan beat Rawreth’s Zayd Mauthoor 8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-9. The match could have gone either way, but Duncan just edged the 3rd set, which swung it his way. Champion Duncan Taylor

Next was the first of the 2 Men’s Semi Finals where Thorpe Bay’s Matt Spero faced Hadleigh Forum’s Mark Mulley. Mark is new to our League and follows in the footsteps of leading Essex Players, Dad Paul & Grandad, John. Mark was outstanding against top level player Matt, winning in 3 straight sets 11-3, 11-9, 12-10

The second Men’s Semi Final saw 2 of Essex’s best players in Duncan Taylor and Iron’s Reece Sedden. Reece was in great form taking sets 11-8, 11-7. Then as we would expect Duncan rallied to take the next set 13-11 and in a very close 4th set Reece clinched the match 11-9

Next match on was the Mixed Doubles Final which on paper, looked very close. Former Southend multi Men’s Singles Champion, Rawreth’s George Reeves partnered Matchpoint’s Debbie Oneill against Men’s Singles Finalist Reece Seddan & Debbie’s Matchpoint colleague, Lotte Mills. Lotte & Reece were on top most of the match, winning 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7. Champions Lotte Mills & Reece Seddon

Match 5 was the Ladies Doubles Final  This saw the Invicta pair of Trisha Winter and Sarah Ball playing Canvey’s Jo Hills and Matchpoint’s Lotte Mills. The first 3 sets were very close with Sarah & Trisha taking the first set 11-9. But Jo & Lotte rallied to take the next three sets and the match 13-11, 15-13, 11-6. Champions Jo Hills & Lotte Mills

Next on was the Men’s Doubles Final. Duncan Taylor & Reece Sedden were in control throughout against Zayd Mauthoor & Rawreth’s Keith Adams, taking the title 11-6, 11-3 & 11-7. Champions Duncan Taylor & Reece Seddon

Game 7 was the Ladies Final. This saw Hockley’s Hannah Harbour play Invicta’s Trisha Winter. This was a return for Hannah to the finals as she previously won the Title in Millenium year, 2000, then as Junior Hannah Cook, then for the Hullbridge TTC. Hannah’s mother, Sue Cook,  was at the time one of our best Lady players,  winning the Ladies Singles title in 1994, 1997 and 1999. The final was a close match with Hannah winning 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 in a very entertaining match: Hannah reclaiming the title after a gap of 25 years. Champion Hannah Harbour

Finally, the eagerly awaited Men’s Singles Final between Reece Sedden & Mark Mulley. Then match was close throughout, with Mark winning a most entertaining match, full of fast and high-level table Tennis, 11-7, 11-9,15-13. Great play by both players. An outstanding Champion Mark Mulley.

Various Events Finals were concluded during the 3 days.
