Back to the league action, and a high-quality match and great evening saw Lentern emerge 6-3 victors over Rawreth B. For the winners, each player picked up two games, but it was the inspirational Matt Spero who again was MoM scoring another hat-trick.

The match result was never in doubt when a below strength Customs A side came up against the inform Thorpe Bay A team of John Poysden, Paul Sayer and Mark Stones. Only one game extended beyond three ends leading to a 9-0 win for the title-chasing Bay.

There was also an intriguing battle at the other end of the table which saw Stanford le Hope record their first win of the season against Customs A. There were two wins each for Chris Hancox, Andy Paton and Ryan Sutcliffe with Roy Thomas remaining unbeaten for the losing side.

We wish the Hullbridge Cadets good fortune in this weekend's National Cadet League in Stow Market.
Sdttl are likewise very proud of our current strong Junior Base, with our 3 Junior Clubs, Hullbridge, Rawreth and Hockley all growing and producing a lot of good players.
Thorpe Bay A were in no mood to mess around as they put in a dominant performance to see off Premier Division new boys Hockley A 9-0. Jon Poysden, Mark Stones and John Monk were all unbeaten.

Elsewhere, Hockley proved too strong for Stanford with Liam Squirrell in outstanding form taking all three of his games. Rahul Sharma was the only player to take points from the Hockley team with two wins.

Southend League had 2 junior members representing Essex county at Batts, Harlow on 8th Oct. Justin Jeffery (Rawreth TTC) and Matthew Stringer (Hockley TTC) played against Middlesex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

There was an excellent hat trick from Colin Chatfeld playing with his new short pimples as his Rayleigh Mill side overcame warehouse A 6-3. Chatfield was backed up by the two Steve’s Sawyer and Maltby with two and one win respectively

Finally this week, Hamish Innes’s win over Richard Brown was all Hadleigh Forum A had to show from the visit of Hullbridge A. Kevin Caldon and Stuart Gibbs were again unbeaten for the visitors.

John Holland was in fine form as his hat-trick helped Hullbridge B to a 5-4 away win over Castle Point A. For the home side, Barrie Delf and Chris Jacob had wins over Matt Rolfe, and Simon Jacob went one better with an excellent victory over Glen Johnson.
New boys Stanford Le Hope put in a good effort in Week 1 pushing Rawreth B all the way in a 5-4 defeat. Rawreth’s Eric Green put in a strong performance winning his three, while Rahal Sharma played well for the home team, only losing out to Eric in 5 sets.
After a gap of some 8 years, the ECTTA Annual Closed Championships for Seniors, Vets and U21s returned. It was held at the Rayleigh Leisure Centre, in Rawreth, home of Southend’s Annual Closed Championships.

Lou has been involved with local Table Tennis for the whole time that I have been involved, over 50 years. He played in our local leagues, Southend, Basildon, Chelmsford, Burnham and Brentwood. Always happy, always looking to help out wherever he could.

Thorpe Bay B finished a commendable 4th, an achievement of note when you consider that they have a squad of only three players, Richard Stubbington, Gurj Bhambra and Keiran Skeggs.
The final game of the week came as the already relegated Lentern B went down 8-1 to Rayleigh Mill with three wins a piece from Peter Radford and Minda Sinkus. Wayne Farmer with the consolation win for Lentern over Rayleigh's very own Steve 'Magic' Maltby.

Bottom club Lentern B went down 7-2 to Castle Point this week although there were good wins for Paul Churn over ex-teammate Dave Page and Chris Jacob. Lentern turned up with 2 players and must regroup for next year for life in Division 1.

Customs A continue to push but a close 5-4 win over a determined Hadleigh Forum C team has moved them further away. Roy Thomas with his inevitable 3 points took the honours in the match, although Russell Bright and Mark Everard with two each for Forum put up stubborn resistance.
