The preliminary weekend of the M&G Investments Chelmsford & District Table Tennis Championships played at Hylands School produced no shortage of shocks as well as some superb play. 

With top seed Duncan Taylor having to withdraw from the Mens Singles through injury the top quarter took on a very open look and it was 67 years old Steve Whiteley who took full advantage.
