Below is an obituary written by his friend and League President, Norman Smith.

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Peter Linnett who passed away recently after a long illness. Peter was the longest serving member of Danbury TTC. Contrary to what many thought, Peter was not actually a founding member of the club. He joined two years after the Club was founded in the 1950/51 season. Peter would not claim to be a superstar but he played the game enthusiastically and much preferred an open attacking game with his penholder grip. I can remember one match at a venue where space was limited when Peter disappeared through the fire doors in trying to return the ball. He did not enjoy playing against opponents with what he called funny spin serves but I think that what brought his playing career to a premature end was the introduction of the so-called funny rubbers After he finished playing Peter maintained a keen interest in the Club and was always happy to lend a hand with whatever needed doing. When the new Danbury Community Centre was built and we had to move from our fondly remembered hall at Eves Corner, Peter and John Skuse were instrumental in ensuring that the Club had use of room in the new centre. They negotiated a very favourable rent but that did not last long because there was considerable demand for use of the room we had been allocated. As a consequence we moved to our current premises in the Village Hall and for a few years Peter represented the Club on the Village Hall Committee.

Peter’s contribution to the Club was recognised when he became Club President, a position he held for the rest of his life. He continued to support the Club regularly at their events.

Peter will be greatly missed and our thoughts and condolences go to Judy his wife and to his family at this sad time.
